The 2021 hurricane season has seen quite a bit of activity since it began June 1. So far there have been more than a dozen named storms and weather experts are expecting more.
The New Orleans area has only been hit by a relatively few number of storm systems for most of the year. Hurricane Ida, which hit the Louisana shore as a category 4, has been the season’s strongest.

Whenever a tropical depression or storm forms in the Atlantic or eastern North Pacific, a government agency known as the NOAA National Hurricane Center (NHC) issues tropical cyclone advisories to warn the public.
The advisories are issued at least every six hours and can increase as the storm progresses.
