A Southwest Airlines flight leaving New Orleans for Atlanta had to be delayed after a passenger open an emergency exit for unknown reasons.
Video shared on social media shows passengers hurriedly going to the exits and another flier telling them, “He put something on the plane … He put something on the plane and jumped out the window.”
Additional footage showed a man attempting to get into an airport worker vehicle before being subdued by two employees.
According to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, the passenger got out of the plane, which was still at the gate at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport about 7:40 p.m. and climbed onto the wing. He was “incoherent” and taken to a nearby hospital to be checked out.
When he jumped to the ground, where he was quickly subdued until law enforcement, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
