How Did Southern Get Here?

Southern is led by a stingy defense that leads the conference in sacks (43). The Jags’ 2022 campaign has yielded a 7-4 record overall and a 5-3 mark in SWAC play. Because Southern lost to Jackson State in the regular season, the Jaguars will be looking for payback.

With a win in the SWAC Championship Game, Southern will earn its first-ever berth in the Celebration Bowl, which will be played in Atlanta. A victory will also snap two-game losing streak to Jackson State and give the Jaguars their first SWAC Championship since 2013.

How Did Jackson State Get Here?

Jackson State’s 2022 season has been one for the history books. The Tigers are the first SWAC team to go undefeated since 1991. This squad is also the first Jackson State team to go undefeated in SWAC play for consecutive years.

While JSU quarterback Shedeur Sanders has made the highlight reels, it’s been the Tigers defense, which leads FCS in scoring defense by yielding on 10.09 points per game.
