    4 Min Read

The LSU Tigers face the Alabama Crimson Tidein a battle to stay alive in the College Football Playoffs.

In this article, we’ll show you the Fighting Tigers 2024 football schedule and how they fare each week against opponents inside and outside the Southeastern Conference.

Kicking off what promises to be a high-scoring season, first-year starter Garrett Nussmeier has stepped in and up admirably to replace Jayden Daniels as LSU’s quarterback. The emergence of freshman running back Caden Durham has added speed and brute force to the rushing attack and Kyren Lacy has become WR1 among a depleted group of wideouts.

Despite the new offensive coordinator, Joe Sloan, the Fighting Tigers are putting points on the board.

Here’s how the Tigers 2024 schedule is playing out:

    Week 1: USC 27, LSU 20

USC’s Miller Moss won the battle of quarterbacks over LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier, who completed 29 of 38 passes for 304 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Moss went 27-of-36 as he shredded LSU’s secondary.

    Week 2: LSU 44, Nicholls 21

No. 18 ranked LSU Tigers got their first win of the 2024 season matching up against fellow Louisiana state opponent, Nicholls State, who went toe to toe with the Bayou Bengals until midway through the third quarter.

    Week 3: LSU 36, South Carolina 33

The Tigers were led by freshman running back Caden Durham as he led the rushing attack, scoring two touchdowns and running for 98 yards.

Garrett Nussmeier threw for 285 yards and two touchdowns, while tossing one interception as the Tigers won their eighth straight over the Gamecocks (2-1, 1-1).

As of the past three seasons, the head coach of the LSU Tigers football team has been Brian Kelly. He has achieved great strides in a short time, bringing experience and success from his previous tenure at Notre Dame. But is this the year for a championship? It remains to be seen.

    Week 4: LSU 34, UCLA 17

Garrett Nussmeier threw for 352 yards and three touchdowns, and No. 16 LSU outswung UCLA 17-0 after halftime for a 34-17 victory.

“Wish we were cleaner in the first half. The mistakes are maddening,” Tigers coach Brian Kelly said. “Those are the guys we got. There’s nobody getting traded. … We’re going to keep working with them and they’re going to turn the corner.”

    Week 5: LSU, South Alabama

LSU handily beat South Alabama Jaguars as Garrett Nussmeier threw for a career-high 409 yards and freshman running back Caden Durham had 217 yards.

    Week 6: LSU 29, Ole Miss 26

Officially, 102,212 people packed Tiger Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 12 to watch LSU’s thrilling come-from-behind victory over the No. 9-ranked Ole Miss Rebels in overtime. Read the game recap.

    Week 7: LSU 34, Arkansas 10

LSU looked dominant in a 34-10 victory over the Arkansas Razorbacks in Fayetteville.

    Week 8: Texas A&M 38, LSU 23

LSU led 17-7 at the half, but it was all Texas A&M after that. Garrett Nussmeier threw two touchdowns but three interceptions in the worst second half LSU has ever played under Brian Kelly.

    Is LSU Good This Year?

The LSU Tigers football team is considered a perennial power in the SEC for several reasons:

    2. Competitive Facilities: LSU boasts state-of-the-art training facilities and a top-notch stadium, Tiger Stadium, known for its intense home-field advantage and enthusiastic fan base.
    3. Tradition of Excellence: The Tigers have a storied football history, including multiple national championships and numerous SEC titles, which helps maintain a winning culture and attracts high-caliber recruits and coaching talent.
    4. Effective Coaching: Over the years, LSU has had a series of successful coaches who have implemented effective strategies and developed NFL-caliber players. This includes recent coaches like Ed Orgeron and Brian Kelly.
    5. Strong Support: The university and local community provide robust support for the football program, including financial backing and fan engagement.

These factors combine to create a winning environment that helps LSU remain competitive in one of the toughest conferences in college football.

4 Takeaways From LSU’s 29-26 Win Over Ole Miss

    3 Min Read

Officially, 102,212 people packed Tiger Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 12 to watch LSU’s thrilling come-from-behind victory over the No. 9-ranked Ole Miss Rebels in overtime.

Here are four positive takeaways from the game:

    LSU’s Offense Showed Resiliency

The entire first half was one in which LSU’s offense struggled to get touchdowns. Everytime they approached the 30-yard-line, either a penalty or bad play caused them to attempt a kick, but it didn’t rattle them.

“The way they never blinked,” Tigers Head Coach Brian Kelly told reporters after the game. “They were down viftually the whole game. t/hey just kept playing. There was no frustration. It would have been easy for our offense to get frustrated, not getting touchdowns, but they just kept plodding along.”

    LSU’s Defensive Effort Was A+

It’s no doubt that Ole Miss had their chances to blow the game open in the early going. On the first possession, Rebels wide receiver Tre Harris dropped a sure touchdown reception. On the next drive, Ole Miss missed a field goal.

From there, the Tigers defense began to wake up and stop Ole Miss from establishing any type of rhythm for most of the night. Although LSU’s defense gave up 464 total yards, in the second half and overtime combined, Ole Miss could only muster 9 points.

Garrett Nussmeier Had His Worst Game — And Still One

First-year starter Garrett Nussmeier was a horrible 22 of 51 on his passes for the night, constantly throwing into double and triple coverage. He also tossed two costly interceptions — but he also threw three touchdowns.

“I will sit here and say that I probalby had the worst game of my career here tonight. I will openly say that, he told reporters after the game. “The best part about it is I get to learn from it and we got a win.”

It says a lot about a kid and a team that can muster the kind of fight to play through that kind of game, especially trailing except for the very end.

    No Sacks Allowed

Although Nussmeier was hurried a handful of times, LSU’s offensive line didn’t allow a sack. Nuss is not fleet of foot, but he evaded passrushers time and time again as the Rebels’ powerful front four swarmed around him.

Conversely, Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart was sacked six times.

  • How To Get Your Resume Noticed by a Recruiter

    4 Min Read

Finding a job is not as easy as it may sound. You do all the work to improve your resume and it goes unnoticed. What can you do?

In this article, we’re going to show you how to make sure your resume gets attention from recruiters and hiring managers.

What Are Recruiters Looking for in a Resume?

Recruiters typically look for several key elements in a resume to quickly assess whether a candidate is a good fit for a role. Here’s what they focus on:

    1. Clear, Relevant Experience

    • Job Titles & Employers: Recruiters look for previous job titles that align with the open role, ensuring your experience matches the job description.
    • Relevant Skills: They expect to see the specific skills needed for the position clearly highlighted in your job duties and accomplishments.
    • Career Progression: They want to see a logical progression in your career, showing that you’ve taken on more responsibility over time.

How To Get Recruiters’ Attention With Your Resume

Getting recruiters to respond to your resume requires a mix of strategy, tailoring, and visibility. Here are some effective ways:

    1. Tailor Your Resume to Each Job

    • Customize your resume for each position by emphasizing relevant experience and skills. Use keywords from the job description to ensure your resume passes Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS).

    2. Use a Professional and Simple Layout

    • Keep your resume clean, well-organized, and easy to read. Avoid fancy fonts and graphics that may confuse ATS systems. A clear, structured format can help highlight your strengths.

    3. Write a Strong Summary

    • Start your resume with a concise, engaging professional summary that captures your key skills, experience, and career goals. Show how you can bring value to the employer.

    4. Quantify Your Achievements

    • Use numbers and metrics to demonstrate your impact. For example, “Increased sales by 30%,” or “Led a team of 10 employees,” to make your accomplishments stand out.

    5. Highlight In-Demand Skills

    • Emphasize skills that are in demand for your field. Keep up with industry trends and list any certifications, software proficiencies, or relevant technical skills that can set you apart.

    6. Leverage Keywords

    • Recruiters often search for specific terms related to the job. Identify and include these keywords throughout your resume (in the experience, skills, and summary sections) to increase the likelihood of your resume being found.

    7. Include a Strong Cover Letter

    • Attach a personalized cover letter with your application. Use this space to explain why you’re a great fit for the company and how your skills align with their needs.
    • Here’s an example: Dear [Hiring Manager’s Name],
    • I am writing to express my interest in the [Job Title] position at [Company Name] as advertised on [Where You Found the Job Posting]. With [X] years of experience in [Your Field/Industry] and a proven track record of [mention a specific achievement or skill], I am confident that my background and skills closely align with the goals of your team.

    8. Optimize Your LinkedIn Profile

    • Many recruiters will check your LinkedIn profile after you add a resume. Ensure it’s up-to-date and consistent with your resume. Use a professional photo and write a compelling headline. Be active on the platform by engaging with posts in your field or joining groups.

    9. Follow Up

    • After submitting your resume, follow up with the recruiter or hiring manager within a week. A polite email expressing continued interest in the position can help keep your name top of mind.

    10. Network and Get Referrals

    • Networking is one of the most powerful ways to get noticed. Attend industry events, join professional groups, or connect with current employees of the company you’re applying to. A referral can significantly boost your chances of getting a recruiter’s attention.

Following these tips can increase the likelihood of recruiters responding to your resume and helping you stand out in the competitive job market.

How’s the 2024 Hurricane Season Shaping Up?

    2 Min Read

The 2024 hurricane season in the Atlantic Badin is shaping up to be a doozy.

The season’s activity is affected by climate patterns such as El Niño and La Niña, which could account for warmer temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean this hurricane season.

For 2024, forecasts suggest that the Atlantic might experience a moderate to high level of activity, depending on the prevailing sea surface temperatures and atmospheric conditions.

    When Is Hurricane Season?

The Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 through November 30 each year. During that time, warm weather creates tropical or subtropical storms in the North Atlantic Ocean.

The months when hurricanes are most likely to form — what weather experts call “peak season” — is between late August through September. That’s when you get sea surface temperatures conducive to the formation of cyclones. The historic Hurricane Katrina crashed through New Orleans and the Gulf Coast in 2005.

The named storms for the 2024 hurricane season are:

    • Alberto
    • Beryl
    • Chris
    • Debby
    • Ernesto
    • Francine
    • Gordon
    • Helene
    • Isaac
    • Joyce
    • Kirk
    • Leslie
    • Milton
    • Nadine
    • Oscar
    • Patty
    • Rafeal
    • Oscar
    • Tony
    • Valerie
    • William

Of those storms, so far only hurricane Beryl hit the United States, raking parts of Florida and Georgia before lashing South Carolina.

    How To Stay Safe

    • Stay inside your home and away from windows and glass doors.
    • Close all interior doors and brace all external doors.
    • Take shelter in a small interior room like a closet or hallway in the basement or lower level of your home.
    • If flooding occurs, get out of the basement or lowest level of your home and take refuge on higher ground.

    Stay Up To Date

New Orleans features a robust communications system that keeps residents abreast of the major storms. To stay in the know, all you have to do is sign up for the city’s emergency text messaging system.

To do so, text NOLAREADY to 77295. For Spanish notifications, text ESP to 77295.

    Final Word

As a top-tier convention city, New Orleans is known for its many festivals, parties and events. Is the city safe? Of course. That also means that Nola is also a top travel destination.

How To Find A Job This Year

    4 Min Read

If you’re looking for a job, a “Help wanted” sign may seem like a great thing, but an endless abyss of resume-submitting without results can lower your confidence.

The truth is that you have to put some work in to snag some employment in the office or as a remote worker.

In this article, I’m going to share some steps to finding a job in New Orleans.

How To Find Employment Right Now

If you’re looking for a job, there’s good news in bad news, when it comes to the local economy in New Orleans.

Tailor Your Resume: Even if you don’t have direct work experience, highlight any relevant skills, coursework, volunteer work, or personal projects that demonstrate your abilities and dedication.

Acquire Remote-Friendly Skills: Invest time in developing skills that are in demand for remote work, such as digital marketing, graphic design, web development, writing, and language proficiency.

Try Freelancing and Getting A Gig: Consider freelancing on sites like Upwork or Fiverr. Building a portfolio and receiving positive reviews can help you establish credibility.

Networking: Leverage your personal and online networks to inquire about remote job opportunities. Sometimes, referrals from people you know can open doors even without experience.

What is The Best Way To Search For A Job?

The best way to search for a job is to leverage your contacts. Optimize your social media accounts so that you look professional and oriented toward the job you want. Remove any posts that you would have to explain to an employer.

You also want to inquire about job fairs and staffing agencies in your area. Oftentimes, they know where the jobs are and can provide insight on local employers.

Let’s go over some steps you need to take to find a job right now.

    1. Job Search Online

The days of grabbing a Sunday newspaper and scouring the help wanted ads are (mostly) over. These days, the way to find a job is to do so online.

While you could search the individual career pages of the company websites you’re most interested in, the easiest way to job search is to visit the best job search sites.

Indeed.com is a great place to look, but so is Monster.com and CareerBulder.com.

    2. Get Your Resume Spruced Up

One of the top ways to attract hiring managers and recruiters is to have a resume that works for you. If your resume is dated, take some time to fix it up.

You can also pay to get your resume improved by a professional who does that sort of thing. You can find someone who specializes in resumes on the following sites:

    3. Network

Are you a good networker? If you’re looking for work, it’s essential that you tap into your network i.e. the people you know or come across.

Contrary to popular belief, your network doesn’t have to be your close friends, but associates who you know.

Some areas that you can network in are:

    4. Take Advantage Of LinkedIn

If you’re not utilizing LinkedIn, you’re missing out on a great way to attract employers. The website is filled with professionals referring one another to high-paying job opportunities and recruiters looking for the right people.

You can use your time wisely on the site by making connections in the fields you’re strongest in or want to get a job in. You can also connect to hiring managers and people who work for the companies you’re interested in.

    Final Word

The best way to search for a job is to take advantage of the people in your life. Think about where you worship, where you shop and those that you know. Oftentimes, those people will know someone who’s hiring and can refer you.

  • Is There a Category 6 Hurricane?

    2 Min Read

You’ve heard about strong storms during hurricane season, but you might be wondering how powerful can those storms get.

    Do Category 6 Hurricanes Exist?

According to measurable weather models, a category 6 hurricane doesn’t exist.

A Category 6 hurricane would theoretically be a classification for hurricanes stronger than those currently categorized under the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, which only goes up to Category 5.

On this scale, a Category 5 hurricane has sustained winds of 157 mph (252 km/h) or higher, but there’s no official Category 6 designation.

However, some scientists and meteorologists have speculated about the need for a Category 6 classification as climate change has led to the possibility of more extreme storms.

This would be for hurricanes with winds far exceeding the 157 mph mark, potentially around 180 mph or higher. These hypothetical storms would cause catastrophic damage.

How Many Category 5 Storms Have Been in the Atlantic?

there have been 39 recorded Category 5 hurricanes in the Atlantic Ocean. These storms are the most intense on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale, with sustained winds of 157 mph (252 km/h) or greater.

Some notable Category 5 hurricanes include:

    • Hurricane Andrew (1992)
    • Hurricane Katrina (2005)
    • Hurricane Irma (2017)
    • Hurricane Maria (2017)
    • Hurricane Dorian (2019)

Category 5 storms are rare but devastating, and the number has increased somewhat in recent decades, possibly due to warmer ocean temperatures.
